I have been wanting a new camera for a long time now, but have wanted to wait until Christmas to get one. I may still have to wait, but our current camera is starting to go haywire.. maybe because its been dropped a few too many times lately :) . I want to at least start looking around, but I thought I'd ask for some opinions.
I want a higher quality camera (probably SLR), not just the point-and-shoot kind that I have right now. I am definately not a professional, though, so I don't need anything super fancy. I would like to be able to learn more about photography, so I want a camera that I can eventually learn how to take more professional-type pictures with. Also, because I am mostly photographing moving subjects (crazy 2 year olds), I need a camera that can take lots of picutures really fast and be able to focus well.
So.... with that in mind- what do you recommend? Do you have a camera that you love? hate? What suggestions do you have?
One last thought- I don't have an arm and a leg to spend....

I love our Canon Rebel xti. It takes really great pictures and is really easy to use. I have a pretty good grasp on how to use its manual modes, BUT even just the full auto mode takes beautiful pictures. I know that Costco has a GREAT deal on a Canon Rebel xsi right now... it comes with TWO lenses (awesome! AND they are good lenses), case, memory card, etc. I think it is around $800. Also, the best advice I can give for taking pictures of running kiddos is a fast lens and if you get an SLR you will have to figure out what kid will be the best for you. Hope that helps!!!
Check out Jennifer (Heyman) Ray's blog and ask her what kind of camera she has. I know she loves her camera and everyone is jealous, but I don't think it was uber-expensive. Or ask my sister Elise because she is a photographer and worked at ritz camera so has gotten to check out a lot of different cameras
costco is the best place I have looked for camera's. My brother also just left on a mission and they were going to sell his camera I will look into it if you want.
I have the Canon Rebel Xs.. I think. Anyway, next playdate, you can can play with it and I can tell you all my opinions then (if you want to hear...)
Good luck!
